Game 2 Box Score

Rhodes swept a pair of games today from Blackburn College by scores of 7-1 and 8-0.  Sophomore Cindy Bitters picked up the win in game 1, bolstered by a 4-run first inning capped off by a 3-run home run by freshman Elise Suna.   Sophomore Sara Bowen tossed her 3rd career no-hitter and belted a solo home run to lead the Lynx to an 8-0 win in game 2.

Rhodes jumped on the Beavers early in game 1 when with 1 out, freshman Caroline Cooper singled and sophomore Allison Conn reached on an error, setting the table for an RBI single from junior Rebekah Moore.  With two outs, freshman Elise Suna then belted her first career home run over the left center field fence to give the Lynx a 4-0 lead after 1 inning of play.  The Lynx added another run in the second when freshman Kelli Zomer tripled and scored on a sacfrice fly from Cooper.

Following a 2-out error by Blackburn in the 5th, sophomore Sara Bowen ripped an RBI double to right, then scored on a single from Suna, giving the Lynx a 7-0 lead heading into the 6th.  Blackburn would plate their only run of the day on a solo home run by Ruthie Kahl in the top of the 6th.

Sophomore Cindy Bitters picked up her second win of the season, giving up 1 run n 6 hits while striking out 8.  Suna led the way for the Lynx offensively, going 2-3 with a home run and 4 RBI.

In game 2, Rhodes once again jumped on Blackburn early, as Cooper and Conn each had infield singles, setting the table for a 3-run blast over the centerfield fence by Moore.  Following a Blackburn error and a walk, sophomore Olivia Ryan roped a double to the left field wall, scoring 2 more runs and giving the Lynx a 5-0 lead after 1 inning of play.

The Lynx added a run in the 4th when Ryan led off with an infield single and Zomer singled to score pinch runner Cassi Bails-McLeod.   Bowen led off the 5th with her first home run of the season to give the Lynx a 7-0 lead, and then with 2 outs, Ryan would pick up her third hit of the day and come around to score on an RBI single by junior Jennifer Whatley.  That would end the game with Rhodes downing Blackburn 8-0  and the game shortened due to the 8-run mercy rule.

Bowen was dominant in the circle for the Lynx, tossing the third no-hitter of her career, striking out 6 and facing just one batter over the minimum in 5 innings of work  to move her record to 2-1.  Ryan, in her first action of the season after coming from the basketball court, was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run scored, while Cooper also notched 3 hits in the game to pace a Rhodes offense that pounded out 12 hits.

Rhodes returns to action Sunday at 1:30pm vs. the Big Blue of Millikin University.
